Ahmedabad: Concerned with the high rate of drop outs, Gujarat Government has launched a massive scheme to mobilize the masses towards education at primary level, which had begun showing results with the drop out girl child dropped to two percent in 2011 from 20.81 percent in 2000-01 and to 11.64 per cent from the peak level of 36.30 percent at middle level.

The special programme to bring down drop out ratio at primary level was undertaken by the state Government in 2006-07 through a special corpus funds created by the Chief Minister Narendra Modi from the sale of his personal gifts and so far contributed Rs 44 crore towards the scheme. The Government’s efforts have succeeded in increasing school enrollments and bringing down school drop-out ratio.

The Team Gujarat includes the entire Council of Ministers and all Secretaries, besides other officers and people’s representatives. The Gujarat Team was divided into small groups of five, as each group fanned out to the entire state, visiting five schools daily during the six-day movement. These efforts of the Team are geared towards pushing up people’s participation in making primary education quality and result oriented. The twin movements which entered the seventh year have already started paying dividends in the form of higher enrollment, greater spread of education among girl child and qualitative improvement.
